Established American artist Douglas Hofmann's realist works reflect the influences of his artistic heroes, including the Impressionists and the Dutch Masters. Inspired by these artists, Hofmann paints ordinary daily scenarios such as dancers practicing, women bathing, or simply lounging. Even when the image is contrived, the goal is to leave the viewer with some insight into the characters. Like Degas or Manet, Hofmann's goal is to leave to the viewer some tangible emotional feeling or insight into the subject. |

What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or disturbing subject-matter...like a comforting influence, a mental balm-something like a good armchair in which one rests from physical fatigue. | | |
