Hajime Sorayama was born in 1947 in Ehime prefecture, Japan. Sorayama entered Shikoku Gakuin University in 1965. After the publication of Pink Journal in 1967, he left the school and entered the Chuo Art School. Graduating in 1969, he was hired at an advertising firm as a comprehensive illustrator. He began working independently as a free-lance illustrator in 1972. Sorayama drew his first robot in 1978. His books and video include Sexy Robot (Genko-Sha, 1993), Pin-Up (Graphic-Sha, 1984), Illustration Video (Fuji Television, 1985), Venus Oddyssey (Tokuma Communications, 1985), Poster Book Sexy Robot (Taco, Berlin, 1988), Hajime Sorayama (Taco, 1989), Hyper Illustrations (Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha, 1989), Hyper Illustrations 2 (Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha, 1992), Sorayama Call in Beauties (Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha ,1997)

This really does show a lot of Sorayama's work. From the sexy robots to the life-like pin-ups to the surreal to the over-the-top fetishes. This book shows them all.
Sorayama is a masterful artist and an extremely talented airbrush artist. The majority of his work is sexually graphic and some are simply disturbing, but if you want to see some incredibly realistic art, you can appreciate this book. In fact, this book even includes some sketches he's done of buildings, planes, etc. The man is truly an artist. Still, keep in mind that most of the works in this book are graphic in nature.
The good news: this book has page after page after page of his art - measuring almost 1.5 inches thick. The bad news: The book is only 6 inches by 8.25 inches - very small for an art book. It also places a number of paintings on one page - making them too small to really admire his detail. Also, the book is perfect bound - which makes the paintings that cover a double-page spread difficult to see.
I still think this is a great book to get a good sampling of Sorayama's work. There's a lot of his work to see in these pages. Some of it is erotic, some of it is playful, some of it is disturbing, and some of it is just amazing technically. Larger format and better layout design would be the two things that would improve this book.

This publication tells all about Hajime Sorayama, an illustrator renowned for heightened realism, eroticism, and fantasy worlds. This book includes everything from around 25 new illustrations (the majority of which are published for the first time in this volume) to the uproariously funny musings and conceptual notes written in the keenly mordant wit of Sorayama. This book is also the first to trace Sorayama's artwork production process from sketch to completion. At its end the reader will find a list of books, movies, and music that inspired Sorayama, and personal journal entries spanning two years. The depths contained in this comprehensive volume can't be found anywhere else. The reader will absolutely be satisfied. Special slipcased edition with snake-skin textured cover. Please note: This is an erotic art book intended for mature readers, not one of the publisher's instructional manuals.

This is a MUST HAVE book for erotic or bondage artcollectors. Sorayama's work is simply amazing. His imagination andattention to detail are incredible.
There are many very explicitimages. Many pictures contain wild and creative bondage; others have unusual piercings displayed in unique ways. A lot of the piercings are in very intimate places. A few women hold whips.

Some of the other subjects include mermaids, women with snakes & other creatures, women in water, ponygirls and women urinating. Though some pictures contain metal work, there is less in this book than previous ones.

This book is absolutely fabulous, filled with bondage, erotica and torture of all kinds. Sorayama's ability to capture the erotic essence of a female is astonishing. His attention to detail and creativity left me in awe.
The all new artwork is bold, containing very explicit images. Most of the images are on one page. The pictures are often quite bizarre. Some themes include piercing, cowgirls, urination, and women in metal or with medical implements.

Sadomasochism is very prevalent and most women are shown submissive. Many are in very extreme bondage. However, some women are in leather and hold whips or weapons, playing a more dominant role.

White Women, Helmut Newton's legendary first work, appeared more than twenty years ago. With it's superior mixture of aesthetics, technical perfection and bourgeois decadence it has lost nothing of its potency and attractiveness. Newton's work encompasses a wealth of themes, also embodying facets of the mass-media world of glamour, masquerade and show. Using subtle, yet striking images--like those of Paloma Picasso, Veruschka, Elsa Peretti, Karl Lagerfeld, David Hockney, and Charlotte Rampling--Newton embraces the delicate, natural beauty of the naked female body. White Women is a masterpiece of erotic visual literature.

Pascal Baeten's sublime black-and-white fine art nudes are praised around the globe, and here, in his fourth book, his work reaches a crescendo of style and purity. Baetens' photos "remind us of those precious moments of discovery when all was well with the world and nature was in perfect harmony with the beauty of the female form," says Andrew Rawlins. Everyone who appreciates the beauty and the art of female nudes needs this beautiful book by a rising star.
